The TSA wants to do more than sniff your powders

Note to self: No more powdered donuts before going to DIA

Note to self: No more powdered donuts before going to DIA

At DIA, travelers are required to step into a strange glass box where they are shot with puffs of air that supposedly allow electronic “sniffers” to detect suspicious materials. Now the TSA is apparently rolling out some type of mini-chemical laboratories so that powders from a person’s body or luggage can be tested on site. From the NYTs travel section:

Using a new kind of explosive detection technology, the [TSA] plans to screen certain powders coming through airport checkpoints by taking a sample of the powder and doing an on-the-spot test.

Hmmm, a “new kind of explosive detection technology.” Thank you for your vagueness, NYTs… might as well of called it a “safety-making thingymaboob.” With all the sniffing, testing and proding, it probably won’t be long before they start puncturing passangers’ ears with little ID tags and running them through rat mazes.

Oh, wait, those are called security lines!
